Luanda - Djibouti athlete Hani Hirsi won the 68th edition of the traditional end-of-year pedestrian race 'São Silvestre de Luanda' on Tuesday, held in the Angolan capital, with a time of 29 minutes and 36 seconds.
The athlete beat his compatriot Moumin Boughepop, who clocked 29 minutes and 41 seconds and the Kenyan Vincent Ntabo (29:45).
In the women's class, the triumph was the Kenyan Valentine Jepkoech, with a time of 34:17, followed by the Angolans Adelaide Machado (37:10) and Regina Rebeca (37:37), both from Interclube.
The winning distance runners dethrone the Namibians Daniel Paulus and Helalia Johannes, respectively in male and female, winners of the previous competition, absent in this edition for personal reasons.
The triumphants, in both sexes, were awarded three thousand US dollars each for the organization of the event, as part of the festivities of the 50th anniversary of Angola's Independence, which is celebrated on November 11, 2025.
The 10-kilometer race started from Largo da Mutamba, passing through Amílcar Cabral, Revolução de Outubro and Ho-Chi-Minh avenues, Alameda Manuel Van-Dúnem, Largo do Kinaxixi, Missão streets, Cirilo da Conceição, 4 de Fevereiro, Largo do Baleizão, Rua Francisco das Necessidades, ending at Estádio dos Coqueiros.
