Luanda - The senior men's national basketball team, which from the 23rd to the 25th of this month will compete in the first qualifying window for Afrobasket'2025, in Hammamet (Tunisia), will be coached by Angolan Aníbal Moreira.
According to a statement from the Angolan Basketball Federation (FAB), made public on Tuesday night, the head coach, Spanish Pep Clarós, is facing a difficult time due to his father's health condition.
Aníbal Moreira will be assisted by Miguel Lutonda, until then both members of the technical team led by Clarós.
In the competition, Angola is placed in group E, with Guinea, its opening opponent, followed by matches with Kenya and Tunisia.
Twenty nations, subdivided into five groups of 4 teams each, will compete for the 16 places for Afrobasket`2025.
At the service of the national team are the following players: Childe Dundão, Gerson Gonçalves "Lukeny", Elcane Paca, Aguinaldo Neto, Aboubakar Gakou, Teotónio Dó, Wilson Ambrósio, Kenneth Manuel, Macachi Brás, Cléusio Castro, Jilson Bango, João Fernandes, Eduardo Francisco.
Angola is the country with the most continental titles, eleven (11) in total, the last being won in 2013, under the guidance of Angolan Paulo Macedo.
The national team, remember, embarked on Tuesday for the city and Hammamet, where athletes who evolve oversea will join.
