Luanda – The Angolan Doctor João Mulima is part of the International Doping Control Officers (IDCO), at the 13th edition of the Accra2024 African Games, which takes place from the 8th to the 27th of this month, in Ghana.
In response to the invitation from the Ghana Government, the specialist is supporting and contributing to the anti-doping testing process during the continental sports event.
On the sidelines of the competition, João Mulima also participates in the 1st High-Level Forum on Anti-Doping in Africa, under the umbrella of the African Union.
The former athlete and director of the Angola Sports Medicine Center was also on duty at the African Cup of Nations (AFCON'2023), in football, held in Côte d'Ivoire, being a member of the anti-doping sector of the African Confederation of the sport (CAF).
Angola is in Accra, with 113 athletes, of which 55 are male and 58 are female, representing athletics (including adapted sport), handball, cycling, judo, Karate-do, wrestling, MMA, swimming, taekwondo, field and table tennis, volleyball and chess.
The MMA is the main novelty of the delegation, consisting of an experimental package from the event's organizing committee.
In the last edition, held in 2019, in Rabat (Morocco), Angola ended up in 16th place with a total of eight medals, of which two were gold and an equal number of silver and four bronze.
Egypt was the champion with 273 medals (102 gold, 98 silver and 73 bronze).
