Luanda - Angolan David Elias won Saturday the 65th edition of Luanda’s yearend race, dubbed "Saint Sylvester'', which is actually the postponed edition of 2021 due to the covid-19 pandemic. The race had a 10-kilometre route through several streets of Angola’s capital.
The Interclube’s athlete crossed the line with 31:07 beating his compatriots Avelino Sangahali (1º de Agosto) and Alexandre João (Interclube), cloacking 31min:15sec and 31:29 respectively.
The Angolan Ernestina Paulino (Interclube) won the women’s race with 35:31, followed by her teammates Adelaide Machado (37:43) and Josefina Baptista (38:8).
Angolan racers beat foreigners from Kenya, Gambia, DRC and Mozambique.
This weekend’s race - that was supposed to take place last December 31 and was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic - had the participation of 2,500 nationa and foreign runners.
