Luanda - Angolan swimmer Henrique Mascarenhas improved Monday his personal record and position in the 200 metres freestyle at the World Championship taking place in Japan.
The national freestyle swimmer clocked 1:55.09 being 52nd placed out of the total of 72 opponents, improving three places from the 55th position he achieved in 2022 in Hungary, where he clocked 1:58.03.
Henrique showed his good form, surpassing about 2s.94d of the mark made in the last edition.
The Angolan was one of the few to beat a personal record in this race, in which even the world champion, Romania's Davi Popovic, already qualified for the final, stumbled on his time (1:44.70), against 1:43.21 recorded in 2022.
Angolan Lia Lima in the 200 m butterfly, was also due to compete on the same day of an event full of surprises led by China with 17 gold, five (5) silver and six (6) bronze.
Australia comes in second with five (5) gold, two (2) silver and one (1) bronze. Japan is third with four (4) gold, one (1) silver and four (4) bronze.
The world champion, the United States of America, ranks seventh with one gold, seven silver and six bronze. JAD/VAB/AMP/jmc
