Angolan takes over presidency of Portuguese Speaking Football Union

Luanda - Angolan Artur Almeida e Silva took office Tuesday in Lisbon, Portugal, as president of the Union of Portuguese Speaking Football Federations (UFFLP).

Without specifying his term in the institution, the leader of the Angolan Football Federation (FAF) told Radio 5 that the aim was to dignify the member countries by working towards the development of the communities.   

 

“I appreciate the trust placed in me by the UFFLP members and with everyone's help to be able to engage myself. We will take football to be practiced in all communities of our organization”, he reiterated.

 

Artur Almeida e Silva also the chairman of Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA).        

 

The Union of Portuguese Speaking Futebol Federations is an international association of football federations from countries whose official language is Portuguese.

 

It was created in May 2022 in Lisbon, Portugal, on the initiative of the Portuguese (FPF) and Brazilian (CBF) federations. The association was inspired by the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP), which has existed since 1996.

 

The sports body aims to strengthen cooperation between member countries in football, with multilateral initiatives that raise the technical level and reinforce the contribution of sport to human, economic and social development.

 

Furthermore, it seeks to advance the progressive international affirmation of the set of Portuguese Speaking Football Federations, especially with the decision of the 72nd FIFA Congress, held in Doha, Qatar, on 31 March 2022, which included Portuguese as one of the official languages of the body. 

 

The football federations of Brazil, Portugal, Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau and Sao Tome and Principe are the founding members of the organisation and subsequently Equatorial Guinea, East Timor and Macau, were invited.

 

The founding event took place on 21 May 2022, in the Football City, in Lisbon, Portugal.

 

The event was attended by Artur Silva, President of the Angolan Football Federation, Carlos Teixeira, from Guinea-Bissau Federation; Fernando Gomes, Portuguese; Feizal Sidat, Mozambican; Mário Semedo, Cabo Verdean; Adalberto Catembe, vice-president of the Sao Tome Football Federation; Teresa Romão, Portuguese General Secretary, besides directors and other members of the FPF, as well as representatives from Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) and International Association Football Federation (FIFA).
