Luanda - Angola seeks to increase the number of medals won in the 'World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship', which ends Saturday in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
The national team, composed of 31 athletes of different categories, in both genders, has 15 medals to date, eight gold, five silver and two bronze, in the event whose stage is the Mubadala Arena, Zayed Sports City area.
Among the fighters who enter the scene today, the highlight is the junior Jiu-jitsu world champions, Brazilian version, the brothers Hélio Caio, 19 years old (62 kg, purple belt) and Heliane Caio, 16 years old (75 kg, purple belt).
Heliane fights for the second time in this event, after having already won the silver medal in another category.
Also in action will be world champion fighters Erik Rodrigo Barros, 19 years old (85 kg, purple belt) and Rosângela Teixeira, 24 years old (49 kg, brown belt), the latter two-time African champion in 2022 and 2023.
The last two gold medals won by Angola were through the fighters belonging to the Z1 Academy Kilamba-Angola team, namely, Ruben Carvalho, 19 years old (56 kg – blue belt) and Xaiane Fernando, 21 years old (49 kg – white belt).
The former defeated Brazilian João Victor, 3-0, while the latter was stronger than Ukrainian Anna Boiko, winning 2-0.
The Abu Dhabi 'World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship' began on November 6 with the youth division (advanced athletes from 10 to 17 years old) and will end on the 16th (Saturday) with the finals of the adult division of black, brown and blue belts.
Athletes from the master division (over 30 years of age from the blue belt to black) and professional athletes from the purple to the black belt also participate. MC/DOJ
