Luanda – Angola national junior women's handball team won the African Junior Handball Championship Thursday in Monastir, Tunisia, after beating Egypt 30-27 in the final following extra time, thus retaining the title.
In a very intense “duel”, Angola had to put in a lot of effort to avoid defeat going into half-time with a five-goal lead (10-5).
Despite this, the Egyptian team managed to recover from the gap to Angola and successively equalize the match.
The hard-fought match resulted in overtime, after a 24-24 draw.
Much calmer, the goals of the Angolan side started to appear to win the title against an opponent that were beaten in the final for the second year in a row.
Angolan player Bernadeth Belo was voted MVP of the match, having scored six goals in the final.
This is Angola’s 11th title, the second in a row.
Angola and Egypt replayed the final of the previous edition held in Conakry, with the Angolans winning 18-17 in the final.
