Luanda – Angola national senior football team is full of seasoned and talented players capable of winning the coming encounters and make Angola ‘dream’ of returning to the World Cup, said former international player Pedro Mantorras.
The former striker, who made a name for himself with Sport Lisboa e Benfica and the national team, said that with faith and a lot of dedication it will be possible to overcome Eswatine (June 7) and Cameroon ( June 11) at home, despite the experience of the latter rival.
Speaking to the press, after the Angola training session, Mantorras said it was a unique moment to comfort the players in their ‘fight’ to return to the World Cup, 18 years after Angola made its debut at the 2006 edition in Germany.
However, according to Benfica's current ‘scout’ for Africa, achieving the goal also depends on public support at home.
The 2026 World Cup will be played in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The National Team includes:
Gelson Dala, Jonathan Buatu, Estrela, Milson, Randy Nteka, Maestro, Show, Jonás Ramalho, Manuel Benson, Jordy Gaspar, Kialunda Gaspar, Keliano.
Neblu, Langanga, Fredy, Lucas João, Mabululu, Dominique, Sandro Cruz, Cambila, Domingos Andrade, Pedro Bondo, Clinton da Mata, David Carmo, Depú and the newly integrated Gilberto.
In Group D, Angola are fourth with two points. Cameroon lead the group with four points.
Cape Verde is second with four points, the same as Libya in third place.
Mauritius are in fifth place with just one point, while Eswatine are sixth with no points. JAD/MC/TED/AMP
