Luanda – Angola senior men's roller hockey team were defeated Wednesday by Argentina 0-4 in the second round of Group B of the 45th edition of the Roller Hockey World Cup being held in San Juan, Argentina.
Playing against the host and clearly one of the candidates for the title, Angola tried to resist the offensive power of Argentina, conceding the first goal following 8 minutes, through Pablo Alvares.
The Angola national team opted for a controlled game in defence and preferred the counter-attack, but the level of effectiveness was not “tuned” as it happened during their 5-2 win over Mozambique in the first round.
In the minute 46, Angola had an opportunity to reduce the 3-0 gap, but the team failed to score the direct free kick they had been awarded.
Argentines increased the score to 4-0, again through Pablo Alvares, a key player in the tactics of the host team.
Also for the Group B, Spain thrashed Mozambique 13-02.
With these results, the group is led by Argentina, with six points, followed by Angola (3), Spain (3) and Mozambique (00).
Angola face Spain, while Mozambique face Argentina in the last round of the first stage.
In group A, Portugal and Italy drew 2-2, while France beat Chile, 7-5.
Italy lead the group with 4 points, the same as Portugal, in second place, France is third with 3 points, while Chile are in fourth and last place.
