Luanda - Angola beat Algeria 34-15 on Wednesday to qualify for the semi-finals of the 26th African Senior Women's Handball Championship.
In the match played at the Martyrs Stadium Gymnasium in Kinshasa, the defending champions were leading 19-8 at half-time in a game in which they confirmed their favoritism to win the trophy.
On Wednesday a trio made up of Azenaide Carlos, Naira Caquinta and Helena Paulo, all with five goals apiece, were the top scorers.
Centre back Helena Paulo was voted MVP of the match bringing the number of Angolan players honored in the competition to five.
Albertina Cassoma, Marilia Quizelete, Vilma Nenganga and Marta Alberto, the latter twice, are also on the list of those elected by the Confederation of African Football.
Angola national team will play again on Friday in the semi-finals against the winner of the DRC - Egypt match.
To reach the quarter-finals, Angola finished top of Group B, and are unbeaten so far in five matches. WR/MC/DAN
