Luanda - The Angolan national team are battling for the best place between the 17th and 32nd positions of the the World Basketball Cup, a stage set to start on Thursday in Manila, Philippines, after finishing the regular phase in the third place with 4 points.
The national team lost 67-75 to the Dominican Republic on Tuesday and ended up in third place (thus staying out of the 16 best bout) as a result of Italy's victory over the host Philippines.
In the group A standing, the Dominican Republic, who are the top team with six points, and Italy second with five points, progressed to the next phase.
Angola in third place with four points and the Philippines (fourth with three) can only “scramble” for the best position between the 17th and 32nd with those that also stayed behind.
Angola opened with a defeat against Italy 67-81, beat the Philippines 80-70 and lost to the Dominican Republic 67-75, in the third and final round of the initial phase of group A of the world event, which qualifies for the "Paris`2024" Olympic Games.
