Luanda – Angola national men and women’s chess teams won the first four rounds of the online Olympics competition and lead the group with seven points.
The national team beat Eswatini (6-0) in the fourth round, Djibouti (5-1) in the fifth, Burundi (6-0) in the sixth, and Malta (4-2) in the seventh round.
The first phase finishes on Sunday with four more rounds being played, with Angola facing Ethiopia, Cyprus, Sudan and Jersey.
The competition runs in a Swiss system, all against all, single round. The three best teams from each of the five groups (A, B, C, D and E) progress to the next phase.
Angola reached the next phase in the previous edition. However they were eliminated due to technical issues resulting from internet failures.
