Luanda - The increase in cases of Covid-19 contamination in the world has made it impossible for Angola to participate in the African Chess Championship (CAN), scheduled from December 28 to January 5 in Monrovia, Liberia.
In the event, the country intend to revalidate the title won in the previous edition, in Ghana, in 2019, through Fide Master Luzia Pires of 1º de Agosto team.
The withdrawal of the national team composed of seven players is also due to the Presidential Decree to prevent the propagation of the pandemic that suspended all federated sports activity until January 15t, 2022.
The world championship was not played in 2020 due to the Covid-19.
