Luanda - Angola won two more gold medals Sunday at the ‘World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship’, taking place in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, bringing the number of such achievements to seven.

The last two feats came from two fighters belonging to the Z1 Academy Kilamba-Angola team, namely 19-year-old Ruben Carvalho (56kg - blue belt) and 21-year-old Xaiane Fernando (49kg - white belt).

The former beat Brazilian João Victor 3-0, while the latter was stronger than Ukrainian Anna Boiko, winning 2-0.

The two victories bring to 14 the number of medals won by the national team, in an event that ends on November 16 at the Mubadala Arena, in the Zayed Sports City area.

Until Saturday Angola had won 12 medals, five of which were gold (now seven), the same number of silver and two bronze.

Beginners Aisha Pitra (9 years old), Neldri Germano Funete (8 years old) and Lohan Garcia (8 years old) won gold medals, while the other two gold medals were won by juniors Líria Rebelo (16 years old) and Jocez Jorge (17 years old).

In the youth division, advanced athletes aged 10 to 17, silver medalists (runners-up) were Gisela Luna (-52 kg, yellow belt), Daniela Ramos (44 kg, yellow belt), Evelise Mendes (44 kg, green belt), Heliane Caio (75 kg, purple belt) and Mayra Lemos (57 kg, yellow belt).

The last place on the podium (third-place bronze medal) went to youth athletes Aron Garcia (8 years old) and Luana Malanga (28 kg, grey belt).

Until the end of the competition, Angolan athletes will fight every day for the adult classes, with world champions Ruben Conceição, Hélio Caio and Heliane Caio standing out, the latter having her second fight in this competition.

The Abu Dhabi ‘World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship’ began on November 6with the youth division (advanced athletes aged 10 to 17) and will end with the finals of the adult division for black, brown and blue belts.

There will also be athletes in the master division (over 30 years of age from blue to black belts) and then the professional athletes from purple to black belts. MC/DAN/AMP
