Luanda - Angola won one silver medal and two bronze, at the 13th edition of the African Games taking place from March 8 to 23 in Accra, Ghana.
The silver medal was won by chess player Ednásia Júnior, who beat Nigerian Peace Samson on Sunday in the sixth and final round of the competition, while the swimmer Rafaela Santo won a bronze medal in the 1500 meters freestyle, clocking 18min38 sec and 70 tenths.
The swimmer, who trains in the United States of America (USA), was beaten by South Africa's Van Renseburg and Egypt's HamedLojune (silver).
Angola went to the podium in Olympic wrestling, Greco Roman style, with Roberto Nsangua, who won bronze in the 87kg class, while the karate and tennis teams ended their presence at the event without a medal.
The country is also being represented in the competition by the national senior women's handball, judo, taekwondo, MMA, volleyball and cycling teams.
In the last edition held in 2019 in Rabat (Morocco), Angola finished in the 16th position with a total of eight medals, including two gold and silver medals and four bronze.
Egypt was the champion with 273 medals, 102 gold, 98 silver and 73 bronze. JAD/FN/AMP
