Luanda – Angola national senior women's handball team beat Senegal 22-21 on Wednesday in a very balanced game of the pre-Olympic tournament being held in Luanda, qualifying for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
Unfocused at the beginning, the Angolans were losing 4-0 until the minute 7 when Belinha scored the first goal, in a game witnessed by the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, and other officials.
The African champions' recovery began in minute 23, when they reduced Senegal's lead 9-11 and ended the first half leveled 11-11.
The match ended with Angola confirming its status as 15 times champion in the African continent.
In the first game of the inaugural round, Cameroon and Congo Brazzaville drew 21-21.
Angola face Congo in the second round of the tournament.
The first placed of the four teams qualifies for the 2024 Olympic Games. MC/CF/AMP
