Luanda - The Angolan national tennis team face Algeria Wednesday in the debut match of the Davis Cup Africa Group IV match against Algeria that runs until Sunday on the courts of the Kikuxi Villas Club (KVC) Academy in Viana municipality, Luanda.
According to the draw held Tuesday, Angola's players will also face Senegal and Cameroon in Group A of the competition.
Being held for the first time in Angola, the event will involve 32 tennis players from eight countries, namely the hosts Angola, Algeria, Burundi, Cameroon, Kenya, DR Congo, Rwanda and Senegal.
The event promotes the top two teams to Group III, with the bottom two dropping to Group V.
Angola made its debut in this event in 2001 and to date, its best record came in the 2003 edition, when the team finished seventh.
Angola’s last participation was in 2021, in Brazzaville, Congo. The Davis Cup is the World Tennis Championship for men's national teams (top team), which is part of the calendar of the International Tennis Federation (ITF).
The Angolan National Tennis Team is made up of players Chris Lukano André, Fernando André, Daniel Domingos, Félix André and Emerson Pedro. JAD/VAB/DAN/AMP
