Luanda – 1º de Agosto and Petro de Luanda made their debut with victory in the African Cup Winners Cup, in women's handball, by defeating the Algerians HBCEB and CF Boumerds, by 32-19 and 31-23, respectively, in the inaugural match of Group - A, played yesterday in Oran, Algeria.
After winning the African Super Cup, 1º de Agosto showed favoritism and won the match with less difficulty.
The Angolan team will return to the court on Saturday, at 4pm, against Al Ahly from Egypt, for the 2nd round.
Also on Thursday and for the same competition, Petro de Luanda beat the host CF Boumerdes, 31-23, in a game also for the first round of Group B.
Petro de Luanda, holders of the title, were already leading at half-time, by 17-14.
Central Marilia Quizelete (Petro) was elected MVP of the game.
The Angolan representative will also play again on Saturday against HBC from Côte d’Ivoire, for the second round.
