Luanda - Angola national senior women's handball team have finished in the 16th position of the World Women’s Handball Championship taking place in Norway, Denmark and Sweden.
The updated list disclosed by the International Handball Federation (IHF) shows that Angola improved some places going from the 25th position achieved in 2021 to 16 place in 2023.
Angola climbed nine places to become the best African team in the competition, along with Senegal (20th) and Cameroon (24th). Congo finds out their position Tuesday between 25th and 32nd.
In the first round, Angola lost 29-30 to France and (24-30) to Slovenia and drew (26-26) with Iceland.
In the second round, the African champions lost 19-37 to Norway and won twice against Austria (30-25) and South Korea (33-31).
Azenaide Carlos and Albertina Cassoma were voted MVP on two occasions each, while the team’s skipper Isabel Guialo was elected once.
Angola best position was achieved in 2007 in France, when the team finished seventh.WR/FN/AMP
