Luanda - The Angolan and Mozambican senior women's national basketball teams will compete on February 3 and 4 at the Cidadela Pavilion in Luanda in the first qualifying round for the 29th edition of the African Championship (Afrobasket2025), which will be held in August in Côte d'Ivoire.

The Angolan team, twice African champions (2011 in Bamako - Mali and 2013 in Maputo - Mozambique), will play Mozambique on only two days (3 and 4) due to the absence of the other Zone 6 countries.

According to a statement from the Angolan Basketball Federation (FAB), both games will be played at 6 p.m. and entrance will be free.

Angolan coach Paulo Macedo has said he already entered the final phase of preparations in the country's capital, with the integration of player Italle Lucas and preparation games with men's junior teams.

Other representatives of the southern region of the continent, such as Zimbabwe, Eswatini, South Africa, Namibia, Zambia and Botswana, were supposed to compete in Luanda, but for unknown reasons have not confirmed their presence, leaving the challenge to Angola and Mozambique.

In 28 editions of Afrobasket, apart from Angola's two (2) titles, Senegal has won the most (11), followed by Nigeria (9), Congo (3), Egypt (2), Madagascar and Mali with one (1) each. BSV/VAB/DAN/AMP
