Uíge – 1º de Agosto remains in the second position of the “Girabola2024/25” national first division football championship, with 17 points, after beating Carmona Sport Clube do Uíge, 1-0 on Saturday.
The match, which brought more than 4,000 onlookers to the 4 de Janeiro municipal stadium, was marred by poor refereeing by Ernesto Magalhães.
The result strengthens 1º de Agosto’s second place, with 17 points, less four than leaders Petro de Luanda, while Carmona Sport Clube do Uíge are 11th, with six points.
In a promising start, 1º de Agosto scored an early goal through César, after two minutes, following a distraction by the local team.
Although referee Ernesto Magalhães failed to award two penalties to the local side, Carmona Sport Clube do Uíge didn't let themselves be intimidated and tried to give an assertive response with several attacks by Stanick and Gineby, but to no avail.
However, the half hour of the first half counted for little, with the teams working a lot in the center of midfield.
The start of the second half saw a game very much stuck in the center of the field, with a few rare incursions into the opponent's goal scoring area that never really posed a goal threat.
In a disadvantage, coach Abel da Conceição made substitutions without achieving the goal of leveling the match and, perhaps, winning it.
As time went by, it looked like everything was set up for another defeat for Carmona Sport Clube do Uíge.
In the 90th minute, Mavambu, with a free kick, missed the target to equalize.
Until the end of the match, 1.º de Agosto had the control to maintain their slight lead, while Carmona searched more with “heart” than “head” for a goal that would at least give them a draw.
However, the score remained unchanged until the final whistle.
Reactions
Visibly irritated by the performance of the match's main referee, the coach of Carmona Sport Clube do Uíge, Abel da Conceição, considered it a very difficult match.
“To say that there has to be a bit of courage, because small teams also work, also fight and are the most sacrificed. There has to be impartiality,” he argued.
1.º de Agosto coach, Filipe Nzanza, who acknowledged the bad refereeing, said his team won well, despite the persistence of Carmona Sport Clube do Uíge.
“The referee tilted the pitch. I don't think we 1.º de Agosto deserve that. We're a big team and we deserve respect,” Nzanza said.
Faced with the situation, the fans threw themselves at the refereeing team and, on that occasion, threw several objects onto the pitch, thus putting a negative mark on the encounter.
In the next round, the 9th placed, Carmona Sport Clube do Uíge will go to Lunda Norte to face local side Sagrada Esperança, while 1º de Agosto host Desportivo da Huíla. JAR/TED/AMP
