Mbanza Kongo - A truck loaded with 500 timbers was seized by the National Police in Tomboco municipality, northern Zaire province, for environmental offences.
According to the spokesman of the Ministry of Interior, Sérgio Afonso, the goods, consisting of 400 beams and 100 boards, were being transported by a truck leaving Tomboco for Soyo.
The spokesperson explained that during the seizure, the driver, who has already been arrested, did not present a license to exploit, transport and sell forest resources, thus incurring the crime of environmental aggression.
He said that the police were continuing to make enquiries to identify the owner of the goods, while the driver has been presented to the Public Prosecutor's Office. JL/DAN/AMP
