Lisbon – Angolan minister of Foreign Affairs Téte António defended Saturday in Lisbon, Portugal, the creation of better national and global strategies for the conservation of marine resources.

Téte António was speaking to the Angolan press, in Lisbon, as part of the Conference on the Oceans, to be held in the Portuguese capital (27 June - 1 July), in which Angola will be represented by a high-level delegation.

With the holding of this conference, the second of its kind, it is intended to contribute to the implementation of the sustainable development Goal of the oceans, seas and marine resources for world development.

“We know that the existing resources in the sea are in danger and there needs to be global and national strategies to conserve these resources”, he stressed.

The event, according to the Angolan top diplomat, takes place on the basis of the international engagement of the United Nations agenda on oceans, in compliance with the sustainable development of the 2020/2030 agenda.

Oceans play a crucial and vital role in protecting the health of the planet. They provide oxygen and food, control the climate, absorb excess carbon emissions and help mitigate the impacts of climate change.

The forum, organised by the Governments of Portugal and Kenya, aims to drive the necessary innovative science-based solutions aimed at starting a new chapter in global action for the oceans.

Currently, human actions have a negative impact on the seas and oceans and their sustainability should be a concern for all, addressed by actions at the global, national, regional and local levels.

The protection and conservation of the seas and oceans is to ensure and protect the well-being of Humanity.
