Luanda – The minister of Environment, Ana Paula de Carvalho, said Wednesday in Luanda that she will be focused on promoting actions to increase awareness of the population towards environmental degradation problems in the country.
The minister made the statement during her taking of office after receiving the ministry’s portfolio from the minister of Culture and Tourism, Filipe Zau, who was in charge of the sector since 2021 as minister of Culture, Tourism and Environment (MCTA).
Ana Paula de Carvalho considered that for this purpose it is necessary to promote environmental education as a tool to build the bases for a more sustainable society.
The minister also said that it is urgent to empower the population for the culture of environmental preservation and conservation, however, they will develop activities in close collaboration with all entities and partners to meet the needs of professionals and institutions.
She pledged to work to promote more planting of trees throughout the country, as wel as larger percentage of clean energies and the reduction of greenhouse gases with a more preserved fauna and flora and greater valorization of waste.
Ana Paula de Carvalho also promised to work in collaboration with ministerial departments, government bodies, national and international partners and environmental associations to protect, promote and reinforce the environment rights in Angola.
She went on to guarantee the promotion of important environmental values which will be at the base of a healthy, sustainable and harmonious Angolan society.
The minister emphasized that they will be committed to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) that meets the current needs without jeopardising future generations.
On his turn, Filipe Zau expressed his full support to the minister of the Environment, for those issues that he can effectively support, due to this first phase of start-up, as he considers it to be a commitment of solidarity.
He stressed that his ministry will always be a privileged partner of the environment, in the context of sustainability, where mutations arise in an increasingly accelerated way and the key to success is in the spirit of innovation and teamwork.
He concluded by wishing many successes and health in this mission that Ana Paula de Carvalho is starting.
