Luanda - The Secretary of State for Climate Action and Sustainable Development, Paula Coelho, reiterated, Tuesday, that the Ministry is developing plausible actions to minimize the negative effects on the Angolan ecosystem, motivated by different practices.
According to the government official, environmental mitigation consists of interventions that aim to reduce or alleviate the harmful impacts of human activity on the physical, biotic and anthropic environments, such as the creation of nurseries.
Speaking to the press, on the sidelines of a "Roundtable" on the topic of Environmental Sustainability and Change, held at the Luanda Media Library, she stated that Angola already has several diplomas published, by the way, in the State Gazeta.
According to the governor, the Executive is concerned with mitigating the negative impacts on the economy, often caused by us, with the creation of nurseries and the afforestation of the city of Luanda, which will serve as a model program.
“The city of Luanda has a model project like the great green wall. However, the country will be able to create nurseries not only for ornamental plants, but also for half-door plants, as there are already green spaces that are listed in the national environmental education strategy in the municipalities,” he stressed.
The Ministry of the Environment's national strategy for climate change, highlighted Paula Coelho, involves a multisectoral commission concerned with biodiversity and implementing what is set out in the National Sustainable Development Plan.
On the occasion, the European Union ambassador to Angola, Rosário Bento Pais, said that this body is supporting Angola in the process of economic diversification and in political, environmental, agricultural, energy and other issues that contribute to mitigating or reducing the greenhouse effect.
"We have a project that supports the South of Angola in terms of climate change, focused on in-depth research into the plants that adapt to that region and climate, where we intend to drill holes to develop family and subsistence agriculture", highlighted the diplomat.
The "Round Table" on Environmental Sustainability and Changes was promoted by the “Associação Oficina doconhecimento” and had as speakers the head of the EU delegation, Rosário Bento Pais, and environmentalists Carmo Monte Negro and José Fernandes.
