Menongue - The Priest of the Menongue Diocese, Father António Ndumba, on Sunday in Cuando Cubando Province appealed to the youth of the Catholic Church to pay special attention to the preservation of nature, based on rational and sustainable use, for the good of current and future generations.
The religious leader was speaking at the closing mass of the II diocesan events, which took place from the 3rd to the 6th of October, under the motto: “Young pilgrims, joyful in hope”.
At the time, he highlighted that the essence of man is only absolute when related to nature.
He recalled that the main purpose for human existence is the need to preserve nature, which is why young people must be attentive and defend it, as it is where the country's wealth is rooted.
According to the Catholic prelate, God granted man the ability to name all things existing in nature, in a relationship of dominion, so that he can be the administrator and not the destroyer, respecting nature for the very stability of humanity, since all the disenchantment that man causes over nature falls on man himself.
He pointed out that as a result of the misuse of nature by man, the world is struggling with the phenomenon of climate change, exemplifying that in the case of the province of Cuando Cubango, in the 1970s and 1980s, rain fell at the beginning of August and September, but currently the region records rain from November or December, with very irregular cycles.
“Everything is having an impact on climate aspects due to the fact that man has become a destroyer of nature and not a caretaker how it should be”, he stressed.
He highlighted that a great wealth of young people must be the love of studying to have the capacity and sufficient knowledge that allows them to transform all the potential offered by nature into real wealth.
Father António Ndumba advised young people to be defenders of life and did not accept theories that could destroy cultural identity.
