Luanda - The Angola government has said it prioritizes responsible fishing, protection of marine ecosystems and the existing rich biodiversity, the secretary of State for Fisheries, Esperança Costa, said Wednesday.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the World Oceans Day, marked on June 8, the official stressed that the government is focused on developing instruments to prevent marine pollution in the country, based on the 2025 Agenda, the National Development Plan (PDN 2018-2022) and the Sustainable Development Goals (2030).
The official highlighted the marine life conservation strategy and the marine spatial planning, among others, as crucial tools being currently implemented.
Ms Costa added that the pollution of the oceans with plastics and mainly by microplastics has become a concern, being the marine litter a new global and transversal problem to different sectors of the society, underlining that the fight against plastics is a global priority, whose prevention and mitigation requires combined actions and involvement of all people.
