Luanda - The Art and Culture Foundation, in collaboration with the Luanda Provincial government on Thursday honored prominent women of Cabo Island by planting 35 trees.
The event marked the International Tree Day and Women's Month and included planting saplings along Murtala Mohammed Avenue and placing plaques with the names of the honored women.
Cláudio Revelas, deputy administrator for the Technical Area of Luanda Municipality, called on residents to preserve the green areas and the saplings planted, in order to maintain the image of the province.
For one of the honored, Beatriz António (Tia Lolo), it was an important moment for the evolution of Luanda Island, since over the years it has lost many trees, such as pines, palms and fig trees.
The deputy director of the Art and Culture Foundation, Xavier Narciso, on his turn reaffirmed that, on this Arbor Day, the commitment to protecting the environment must be reinforced for the existence of man.
At the end of 2023, the Luanda Provincial Government launched the Luanda Forestation Program (PAL), which plans to plant 1 million trees by 2027 and 10 million by 2034 to guarantee better living conditions and public health in the capital city. ANM/ART/TED/AMP
