Lubango – Residents of the “Comandante Cowboy” neighborhood, on the outskirts of Lubango, Huíla province, came together for a cleaning campaign, which started a program that aims to turn the area into a model for environmental preservation by the community.
Action by the NGO “Minuto Verde - Quercus Angola”, took place over the weekend and aimed to remove waste and revitalize the area, promoting a healthier environment for the local population, according to the organization's provincial coordinator, Marinheiro Duarte.
Speaking today, Monday, to ANGOP, the person responsible highlighted that the activity is part of the organization's ongoing commitment to the preservation and protection of the Environment, as well as the health of communities.
He highlighted that the four-hour cleaning campaign was preceded by an awareness-raising lecture on how solid waste management should be carried out, given that the neighborhood in question, like many others in the municipality of Lubango, faces challenges related to pollution and accumulations of garbage.
The situation negatively affects public health and the local ecosystem, but he believes that this action will begin to raise awareness among each resident about the importance of sustainability and care for natural spaces.
The organization, based in Luanda, was created in 2022 and has been in Huíla since the first quarter of the current year, whose focus is the environment. BP/MS/DOJ
