Uíge - Two plants with medicinal properties were recently discovered by biologists in the province of Uíge, a group of researchers from the universities Kimpa-Vita (Angola), Dresden and Hamburg (Germany) announced today.
These are the Aloe Uigensis and Impatiens Pinganoensis plants, which are used for the production of modern pharmaceuticals, traditional medicines and food supplements.
Speaking to the press, the director of the Cooperation Area at Kimpa Vita University and Hamburg Botanical Garden, Thea Lautenschläger, said that the plants were discovered in the Pingano mountain range, which comprises the municipalities of Uíge, Quitexe and Ambuila.
He stressed that the plant research project began in 2012, in the province of Uíge, through the University of Kimpa Vita, a commitment to researching plants used by the population as traditional medicine.
Thea Lautenschläger explained that, since the beginning of the investigative project, several samples of medicinal plants have already been obtained, such as Cuacua, Piritos, Peés, among other species.
She pointed out that the organization she is part of will continue to make efforts to multiply these species, aiming to serve biodiversity and scientific studies.
And, in turn, the vice-rector of Kimpa Vita University, Domingos dos Santos, said that the discovered plants have great advantages for scientific research, source of food, medicine and attracting tourism in the region.
