Chinguar - One million and 111 thousand different trees will be planted in the Ganga Sapinde forest polygon, located in the municipality of Chinguar, 75 kilometers west of the city of Cuito, Bié province.
Among the plants, to be applied in an area of one thousand hectares, cedar, eucalyptus, pine, among other species, stand out.
The information made public on Saturday, in the municipality of Chinguar, Bié province, at the start of the 2024 forestry campaign of the Social Security Institute of the Angolan Armed Forces (ISSFAA), attended by the Secretary of State for Former Combatants and Veterans of the Fatherland, Domingos André Chicanha.
Speaking to the local press, at the Ganga Sapinde forest estate, Domingos André Chicanha assured that this project, in addition to preserving the environment, will bring economic profitability to the FAA, in ways that the ISSFAA will no longer depend entirely on the General State Budget (OGE).
The deputy governor for the Political, Social and Economic sector of Bié province, Alcida de Jesus Camatele Sandumbo, highlighted the investment that the Angolan Armed Forces have been making in the area of reforestation, aiming to combat global warming.
The director-general of the National Institute of Social Security Fund of the Angolan Armed Forces (ISSFAA), Lieutenant General Cristóvão Júnior, stressed that, for the planting of trees in Ganga, they have the support of 800 soldiers, in addition to the permanent workers of the polygon, estimated at more than a hundred.
Cristóvão Júnior also added that the institute also intends to invest in the production of honey in the four polygons in the country, two in Bié (Chinguar and Catabola), one in Huambo and one in Huíla.
The Belchior polygon currently has more than one million and 100 thousand trees, including eucalyptus, cedar, pine, parical and others, planted at the end of 2021 to 2023.
Since the beginning of this project, in 2021, to date, the Ganga and Belchior forest polygons have already reached a planting area of more than two million and 700 thousand different trees, in more than a thousand hectares.
For the next 15 years, the projection of the National Institute of Social Security of the Angolan Armed Forces is to plant 100,000 hectares with various trees, in an investment of around US$40 million.
In Bié, in addition to the polygons, the ISSFAA manages a seedling center (Catabola), which has a capacity to produce two million per cycle. It is located in an area of 36,500 square meters.
