Luanda - Angola, via the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Environment (MCTA), reaffirm its commitment to protect wetlands throughout the country, developing scientific studies to identify them.
In a statement published Wednesday on the occasion of World Wetlands Day, the Ministry for Culture, Tourism and Environment (MCTA) said that identification of these areas would make it possible to upgrade them to permanent conservation areas, based on the Environmental Conservation Areas Law.
February 2 was proclaimed the Day of the Convention on Wetlands or "Ramsar Convention", adopted in this Iranian city in 1971.
The MCTA highlights the leadership of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, in the conservation of mangroves, in a project that has been implemented with the support of civil society and partners, aiming to contribute to the reforestation of the wetlands along the coast of the country.
He also praises the role of civil society and environmental defence associations for their commitment in the collection of waste and wide-ranging support in raising awareness for the protection and conservation of the country's wetlands.
