Uige - The province of Uige expects to harvest eight million 653 thousand and 234 tons of assorted products, during the 2024/25 agricultural season, opened on Monday, in the village of Cavunga, in the region's main municipality.
In the previous campaign, the province of Uige obtained a harvest of eight million 262 thousand and 202 tons of various products, said the director of the Provincial Office of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Eduardo Gomes.
Among the products harvested in Uíge, cassava and bananas stand out.
For the current campaign, the region, which has 720,345 hectares of arable land available, has 273,543 peasant families, 868 associations, 252 agricultural cooperatives, 465 field schools and 1,220 individual farmers.
In turn, the deputy governor for the Political, Social and Economic sector, Sonia Arlete Domingos, who opened the campaign, urged the population to invest in agriculture, aiming to support families.
At the launch of the 2024-2025 agricultural campaign, a ceremony that took place under the motto 'Family farming, the right path to sustainable increase in agricultural production', farmers in the region benefited from corn and bean seeds, hoes, machetes and other agricultural production materials.
