Luena - The province of Moxico has available a number of 8k doses of vaccines against hematic anthrax and contagious peripneumonia, to benefit 5k heads of cattle, equivalent to 19%, reported today, the chairhead of the local Veterinary Services Section, Salvador Gaieta.
According to the official, who spoke to ANGOP, in the next campaign scheduled for June and July, 5k heads of cattle will be vaccinated, out of the existing 26k, given the insufficiency of the substance received from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.
The priority at this stage, he said, will be the municipalities of Alto-Zambeze, Bundas, Cameia, Moxico (headquarters) and Luacano, potentially livestock farming and with a higher incidence of animal diseases.
He said that the campaign will be carried out by mobile brigades made up of 12 vaccinators.
The region has been constantly affected by contagious animal diseases, especially cattle.
The movement of animals in border areas, as well as the reduced vaccination campaign, has made the animal population more vulnerable to diseases, according to authorities.
It is estimated that the province of Moxico currently has 26k head of cattle, controlled by 500 breeders.
The province of Moxico shares a 1,77-kilometer land and river border with the neighboring Republics of Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
