Cuito – Namibian Consul Joseph Mbambo Kaveto on Tuesday, in Bié Province, expressed his country’s willingness to provide the necessary technical support to boost the development of the agricultural sector in this central region of Angola.
The Namibian consul was speaking in the city of Cuito at the end of an audience granted to him by the provincial governor, Celeste Adolfo, with the aim of strengthening bilateral relations between Namibia and Angola.
On the occasion, he announced that his country’s intention to provide technical support to the sector in the region is to help harness its potential, rich in arable land and rivers, in order to increase production levels that can also be exported to Namibia.
Joseph Mbambo Kaveto also expressed his country’s intention to cooperate with the Bié government in other sectors, such as mineral resources, tourism and trade.
To this end, the official asked the governor to start inviting Namibian businesspeople to participate in trade fairs held locally.
He assued that, whenever possible, there will be presence of businesspeople from Bié in his country’s activities with the aim of ensuring trade exchanges and experiences in a wide range of areas.
On the other hand, he pointed out the poor state of the road network on the border between Angola and Namibia, starting from the Caiundo commune, as the main constraints to trade and the movement of basic goods between the two countries.
“At the border, from Caiundo onwards, there is a huge challenge. It is not easy to transport goods by this route”, said the consul, who hopes that both countries will intervene to change the current situation.
He considered relations between both countries excellent, highlighting Angola's role in the process of consolidating Namibian political and social stability, a process tha has been happening since the conquest of that country's independence.
In turn, the governor of Bié, Celeste Adolfo, valued the meeting with the Namibian consul and the intention to strengthen cooperation, especially in the agricultural sector.
“We are on the right track, because Namibia has always had good relations with Angola and, therefore, we will work, especially in the area of agriculture, to exchange experiences with Namibian farmers”, she stressed.
The provincial governor guaranteed the presence of Namibian businesspeople to participate in the first edition of Bié Expo, which is scheduled for next year with the aim of showcasing the province's potential.
