Moçâmedes - A fertilizer factory, with a capacity to produce 100,000 tons per year, is being built in the Saco-Mar neighborhood, Moçâmedes municipality, Namibe province, in a private investment of US$1.7 million.
According to the director of this factory, Zhao Xiadong, who spoke to the press on Friday, the factory will start operating in December this year, making the province self-sufficient for this product.
He said that the contract is executed in the order of 60%, generating, in a first phase, 110 jobs for local young people, a number that could double after its completion.
“We intend to supply the entire southern region, via the Moçâmedes Railway, with plans to expand the product to Benguela,” he said.
On the other hand, the deputy provincial governor of Namibe for the Political, Social and Economic sector, Abel Kapitango, informed that the factory will contribute to increasing agricultural production, reducing fertilizer prices in the local market.
“We will have the closest and cheapest products, a fact that will increase agricultural production and reduce imports, in addition to family farmers having the opportunity to increase their crops,” he said. VR/FA/QCB/DOJ
