Huambo - The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries is implementing alternative measures for farmers, with the aim of minimising the negative effects of drought, advising production in riverine areas.
This was made public to the press Tuesday by the Secretary of State for Agriculture and Livestock, João Manuel Bartolomeu da Cunha, who is on a working day in Huambo province.
According to the secretary of state, the indicators in terms of harvest production in the current agricultural campaign are much lower than desired, taking into account the prolonged lack of rainfall across most of the country, which may worsen poverty indexes.
Given this situation, he pointed out that the strategy has been to make farmers aware of the need to produce in riverside zones, in order to find some alternatives to circumvent the losses registered.
João Manuel Bartolomeu da Cunha referred that the country has a lot of potential in terms of riverside zones, hence the importance of valorizing the potentialities, to re-launch the cultures in drought seasons
