Cuito – More than three thousand families will be involved in massive wheat production program in the province of Bié, for the 2023/24 campaign, with a view to cultivating more than 4.500 hectares of land, combined between the business and family sectors.
The information was provided by the provincial farming director, Felizardo Brito Capepula, at the launch of the aforementioned project, which took place on Tuesday, in the village of Chimaha, in the municipality of Chinguar.
The program, as in other parts of the country, was relaunched last agricultural season, with the aim of promoting large-scale cereal cultivation and its expeceted to be implemented by 2027.
The province of Bié harvested more than 10k gross tons of wheat in the previous season, a number that is expected to be surpassed, according to an estimate by Felizardo Brito Capepula.
To achieve the goals set out in this agricultural campaign, the director said that 167 tons of seeds were distributed to municipalities in the province, especially those that have more than 50 hectares of arable land for cereal production.
He also mentioned cooperation with educational institutions, in order to apply technical and scientific knowledge in practice, for greater effectiveness and efficiency.
Manuel Chipilica, one of the wheat farmers, praised the government's policy of distributing seeds, considering the measure could help boost cereal production.
