Ondjiva - 1,449 rural families from Ombadja and Cuvelai municipalities, in southern Cunene Province, were instructed about modern techniques of planting, soil fertilisation, aimed at increasing production levels and crop diversification.
The information was provided Wednesday to ANGOP by the technical coordinator of CODESPA Foundation in Angola, Baptista Pedro, noting that the organisation is developing since 2020, in Cunene, two projects linked to the adaptation of the agricultural system for food and nutritional security.
He said that through agriculture, it was possible to implement 30 field schools, where peasants learn innovative farming techniques to increase activity and food self-sufficiency within rural communities.
The official said that the process is a partnership with the Agrarian Development Institute (IDA), highlighting that most of these families practise subsistence agriculture, so the technical assistance is to improve production levels.
Regarding nutritional component, demonstrative cooking practices have been carried out, by teaching simple recipes, with local products and nutritional values.
Baptista Pedro also highlighted the water and milk treatment sessions and spread information on the planting of trees with high nutritional power such as moringa oleifera.
Budgeted at 777,000 Euros, the action is part of the project to Strengthen Resilience, Food and Nutrition Security in Angola (Fresan).
