Dundo - The provincial governor of Lunda-Norte expects, from current year onwards, an annual production of 25k liters of honey in the municipalities of Chitato, Lucapa and Lóvua.
The information was provided on Monday, by the director of the Provincial Agriculture Office in Lunda-Norte, José Mendes, highlighting that production will be ensured by 44 beekeepers, including 27 refugees from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), settled in Lóvua.
He made it known that beekeepers benefited from training on the general characterization of beekeeping, anatomy lectures, bee's social organization, life cycle, swarming, equipment and tools needed on the beekeeping segment.
He said that the honey production project has funding from the World Food Program (WFP), one of the agencies of the United Nations (UN) and is part of the sustainable beekeeping development strategy.
He reported that of the 300 hives planned, 287 have already been distributed, 140 of which to the Lóvua refugee camp and the rest to individual beekeepers. HD/CF/DOJ
