Ndalatando – The agricultural company ‘Irmãos Chaves’ plans to export, this year, around 20 thousand bottles of the traditional Angolan drink known as ‘Caporroto or Capuca’ to Portugal and France, with the launch of the first filling line for this beverage.
This is the first manufacturing unit of its kind in Angola, recently launched in the province of Cuanza-Norte, which will bottle this distilled beverage, made essentially from cassava, sugar cane and banana, in an industrial manner.
According to the company's general director, António Chaves, at this stage, the factory has the capacity to produce 100 thousand bottles (0.75 liter containers) per year, with production expected to increase to 500 thousand in 2025.
The source said that the sustainability of the project is supported by a laboratory and 200 hectares for sugar cane production.
Capuca is a hard liquor normally made in an artisanal manner in Angola, distilled by hand, and is linked to the history, culture and identity of Angolans.
Normally, this drink is common in traditional mariege ceremonies, deaths, when solving a problem in the village or giving thanks in rural areas.
The company Irmãos Chaves is located in the municipality of Lucala, province of Cuanza-Norte, focusing on agricultural activity, provision of hotel services, among other areas.
From 2019 to date, the Chaves Brothers have invested more than 25 million US dollars in the production of coffee, cocoa and brandy.
