Chinguar - The Vinevala Farm intends to set up wheat flour processing equipment that will enable it to start processing wheat into flour from September this year, its owner Alfeu Vinevala has said.
Speaking to the press on the sidelines of the start of the wheat harvest, Vinevala said the farm has capacity to process 30 tonnes of wheat flour per day.
Located at Chinguar municipality, 75 kilometres west of Cuito city, central Bie Province, more than 10,000 tonnes of wheat are being harvested, with 50 percent expected to be processed locally for the first time.
The other 50 per cent of the production, he said, have been bought by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.
The wheat has been planted on 3,000 hectares.
Alfeu Vinevala said that the implementation of the factory will add value and strengthen the promotion of employability. It currently has more than 4,000 workers.
He also informed that another industry for the production of pasta is in the process of being acquired, adding that the benefits may already be reflected in the next agricultural campaign.
Alfeu Vinevala said the farm's objective is to help the Angolan government to end imports, strengthen domestic chain production and fight poverty and hunger within communities.
Bié governor, Pereira Alfredo, on his turn, praised the farmer's initiative to stimulate and train other local farmers in the promotion of agriculture, especially in crop production, which today has become a focus of the province.
The governor reiterated more government support to small and large producers of the region, in order to contribute significantly to the development of family farming, increase agricultural products and food security. JEC/PLB/Amp/jmc
