Benguela – At least eleven thousand and 600 eggs are placed daily on the local market by Agro-livestock farm “Velho Gando”, located in the municipality of Catumbela, province of Benguela, ANGOP learned on Saturday.
Based in the agrarian perimeter of Catumbela, next to Estrada Nacional EN100, Fazenda Velho Gando occupies an area of 300 thousand square meters, with the focus being to contribute to the promotion and diversification of national production.
The project started recently and Fazenda Velho Gando already has twelve thousand laying birds, which guarantees an average daily production of 11,600 eggs to supply the market.
The project's technical director, Moisés Segunda, explains that the ship is equipped with cutting-edge technologies and equipment that, in addition to facilitating bird feeding, also allows for the automatic collection of eggs and waste.
Concern for environmental sustainability is the company's hallmark and, according to him, it is reflected in the use of waste to be used as organic fertilizer.
As he said, the challenge is to install three more ships to increase the poultry farm's production capacity to 22 million eggs/year.
Moisés Segunda reveals, on the other hand, that the farm intends to produce approximately 70 thousand chickens and 107 thousand chickens, in the second phase of the project.
For now, four chicken rearing and fattening ships are operating, with the director adding that the objective is to install three more ships with greater capacity to produce chickens between 45 and 60 days old.
Still talking about the plans, he notes that a slaughterhouse is being built that will have cold rooms and the capacity to slaughter up to five thousand birds per day.
Regarding pig farming, another bet, the technical director points out the goal of reaching more than five thousand kilograms of pork and just over three thousand kilograms of goat meat.
To this end, he anticipates that the current pavilion will be expanded and re-equipped, aiming to manage 200 sows and fatten 5,760 piglets per year.
The same source made it known that the farm has a warehouse with around 400 genetically improved goats, with a view to producing goat meat. JH/CRB/DOJ
