Quipungo – Muyapi farm, located in the municipality of Quipungo, southern Huíla Province, harvested 24 tons of rice, out of 50 expected at the first harvest of an experimental production.
The production took place in an area of 37 hectares, but it was possible to harvest only 12 hectares, due to climate issues and bird/insect attacks.
According to the farmer, António Mussungo, the harvest was not the most desired, as there were losses of around 65%, but even so the results are encouraging for an experimental production.
To reverse the situation, he reinforced that the farm is working with a team of Chinese technicians, to find out a solution that avoids future losses.
He said that the amount of food harvested will be sold in the municipalities of Quipungo, Matala and Lubango, where he has signed partnerships with traders.
The municipality of Quipungo is 120 kilometers from Lubango and has an estimated population of 215,196 inhabitants and is a potential corn producer.
