Uíge – At least 815 peasant families in Dange Quitexe municipality, northern Uíge province are to receive mechanized land for the cultivation of various products, under the Local Support Program for Family Agriculture (PLAAF).
The program to be implemented by Municipal Administrations, aims to empower family farming and promote sustainable development in rural areas, and includes the preparation of 200 hectares of land/year in each municipality.
Speaking to ANGOP, the municipal administrator, Dionísia António, stated that 150 hectares of land out of the 200 planned have already been prepared and that since the start of the process in 2020, the program has already benefited more than 5,000 peasant families in the municipality.
The official highlighted the positive impact on the lives of peasant families in the municipality, a fact that has allowed the reduction of poverty levels.
In addition to the local traditional crops (coffee, banana and cassava), the peasants are focused on the production of ginger, saffron and black pepper.
During the 2023/24 agricultural campaign, the Dange Quitexe municipality harvested around 30,000 tons of various agricultural products.
The Dange Quitexe municipality, which is 40 kilometers away from the capital of the province, has an estimated population of 32,818, mostly peasants. NM/PBC/TED/AMP
