Dondo - A project for food processing and the transformation of forestry products will be implemented from this year in the municipality of Cambambe Cuanza Norte province, as part of an initiative by British entrepreneurs in partnership with the Angolan government.
The project, which will begin in the municipality of Cambambe, is expected to benefit around 140,000 people over a two-year period.
Later, the investment will cover other municipalities in Cuanza Norte, the head of the company promoting the project, Mohamed Diz Bay, said on Thursday.
With an area of 100 hectares, it includes agricultural areas and industrial processing areas, within a housing complex.
The project, which has already been implemented in Nigeria, is budgeted at 600 million dollars and is expected to create around 2,500 jobs.
The governor of Cuanza Norte, João Diogo Gaspar, praised the fact that the province had been chosen for this investment, stressing that it will add economic and social value to the region, as well as raising its position in terms of industrialisation.
He also emphasised the importance of the project in reducing imports of processed products, and assured the local government of his support in making the investment a reality.
Initially, according to the governor, the project will be implemented in the Mucoso region, in the municipality of Cambambe and will be followed by similar investments in the municipalities of Lucala, Samba Caju and Bolongongo.
He also highlighted the fact that the initiative envisages the purchase of produce from local farmers and the transformation of forestry products to generate renewable energy and reuse waste produced during industrial activity.
João Diogo Gaspar said that the conditions were already in place for carrying out environmental impact studies on the project. LJ/IMA/AC/DAN/DOJ
