Menongue - The Agrarian Development Institute (IDA) has said it is committed to re-launch rice production and implement measures to mitigate the effects of the drought in eastern Cuando Cubango province, the director-general of the institution, Felismino da Costa said Wednesday.
Felismino da Costa said this will be in fulfillment of a guideline and directive from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry to identify and monitor small initiatives and certain community groups, with the aim to implement the initiatives with the necessary support.
He said that in the municipality of Cuito Cuanavale he has been in contact with farmers, families and cooperatives, an exercise repeated in the local Prison Service, where inmates are involved in large-scale rice production.
“The Prison Service is doing very promising work. There are women's cooperatives carrying out large-scale rice production, which is very important for the development of rice production in Cuando Cubango”, he said.
