Cuchi – The municipal director of Agriculture and Fisheries in the province of Cubango, João Reis, informed to ANGOP, on Tuesday, that a total of 21,368 tons of several field products is foreseen to be harvested, in the municipality of Cuchi, for the 2024/2025 Agricultural Campaign.
João Reis informed that 12 thousand peasant families are involved in the current agricultural campaign and 28,342 hectares were worked, with seeds of corn, pennisetum glaucum, Sorghum, black-eyed peas, cassava, rice, vegetables, among other crops.
He considered the regularity of rainfall that has been registered, so far, in that district to be positive, as it is allowing crops to develop and farmers to have greater productivity.
João Reis said that regarding the last campaign, the difference is 12,552 tons, in which 6,629 peasant families were involved.
To achieve the forecasts, 45 tons of corn seeds, pennisetum glaucum, Sorghum and rice, agricultural inputs were handed out to farmers in this municipality.
The director made it known that in the municipality of Cuchi, with an estimated population of more than 43 thousand inhabitants, it has 4 agricultural centers, where 14 thousand families are engaged.
On the other hand, the Cuchi's municipal administrator, Severino Sawada, reported that, within the scope of the implementation of the Program to Combat Poverty, 10 thousand seedlings of mango, lemon, mandarin, orange and papaya were acquired, to promote fruit culture in the municipality.
The administrator foresees that, if each resident produces, the municipality will become a supplier of fruit to other locations and, in this way, avoid traveling to the provinces of Huíla and Benguela, for the current purchase.
