Cubal – At least six agricultural cooperatives in Cubal municipality,Benguela Province, are receiving a photovoltaic irrigation system that assists more than 14 acres at a distance of 1400 meters.
The project is an initiative of the non-governmental organization (ONG) Action for Rural Development and the Environment (ADRA), financed by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
The system results from the Project of Support to Rural Communities to Use Renewable Energies and Commercialization (PAUERC) and benefited 331 people, most of them rural women from various cooperatives.
It includes two agricultural production transforming centers, each one consists of 24 solar panels, a milling machine capable of grinding more than 500 kilos of grain per hour.
Budgeted at over 400,000 US dollars includes a distribution of 50 solar panel kits to homes of the location of the former farm, as well as in the surrounding area, with the aim of enabling the community's residents to have access to electricity.
